Stephen Stonhold is a musician, sound recordist and sound editor working between London and Brighton, exploring the relationship between recording devices, sonic fidelities and medical conditions of the ear.

He has released music with Where To Now records, under the moniker Van Stonholdt and contributed to albums by KEEL HER and J. Josephine. Over the last ten years, he has worked within DIY communities in Brighton and London as a sound engineer and helped run events with Gob Nation, Riots Not Diets, Faux Discx and more recently promoting under circuitboredd. Playing in many bands, most notably; The Tubs, Gross Magic and KEEL HER. He has supported Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Metronomy, The Space Lady, Juan Wauters, Molly Nillson and has toured across the UK and Europe.

In recent years, he has exhibited the piece Abstractions at Gallery 46, London and is working on a zine called Recorder Listening, about the politics of field recording and more generally, recorders. He is one half of asmr, and self released their new age album 'Ocean Waves and Distant Thunders' and played double bass on album 'Sillouettes' with experimental drone musician J. Josephine.
